Reflections From Senior English Reading
1. The Handmaid's Tail - Margaret Atwood
The Handmaid's Tale was a very hard book because of how socially challenging the plot of the story was. The plot was provocative in the way that it dehumanized females, it played on events currently going on in our world and connecting them was what made it challenging.
2. The Things They Carried - Time O' Brian
The Things They Carried was challenging to read in a whole different way. The style of writing was varied and added immense detail that sometime made it hard for the reader to follow the plot line because of how much detail was in the book.
3. The Glass Castle - Jeanette Walls
The Glass Castle was written in a much easier style to read. It was written in chronological order and only had a few flash forward moments. The story is amazing to read but it takes a certain level of concentration to follow what all is happening in the family.
4. The Hate List- Jennifer Brown
The Hate List had the potential to be a very high class book but the execution was poor. The content of the book was hard to read because it talked about some very difficult topics but the thing that made it hard to read was the amount of flashbacks in the book.
5. All The Bright Places - Jennifer Niven
All The Bright Places was a very teenage book about love and romance but it used two POV's to tell the same story. This allowed the reader to see from the perspective of both sides.
6. We Are The Ants - Shaun David Hutchinson
We Are The Ants was a very easy book to read the sense of how to was written. It was written in an easy way to follow. The plot was challenging because of the abstract thoughts going on in the characters head but besides that it was an easy read.
7. Everything Everything - Nicola Yoon
Everything Everything was a cliche teenage romance written with very simple language. It didn't challenge the reader at all. The only challenging thing about the book was the twist at the end.
8. The Female of the Species - Mindy McGinnis
The Female of the Species had a cop out ending and that is what made it such an easy read for me. I felt the ending could have been so much better and made the book more elevated.
I was able to grow as a reader this year because I pushed myself past my own limits. I explored outside of my normal books I read and my teacher recommended some books to me, specifically the Handmaid's Tail that was sensationally challenging. One thing that I struggle with as a reader is reading books that are a different genre then I normally read. I like to stay in my comfort zone of what I know I will like and hate to read a disappointing book.

Reflections From Senior English Writing
In my creative writing class this year we had to wright a pastiche. I found this so fun to do because I studied one of my favorites authors which is Edgar Allen Poe. When my story was completed I knew that it was one of the best piece's I have ever written because of how well it followed his style but also because of how it followed my style as well.
Pastiche
The open letter piece that I wrote was one of the most comical pieces I have ever wrote. I tried to give an idea of what life was like for me in the essay and by doing that I added in a decent amount of humor which made the piece more enjoyable for the audience.
Open Letter
My argumentative piece is one of my strongest because of how well I used my sources. This piece had very strong points and I was able to find a plethora of articles that helped shape my essay and provide credible evidence.
